Organize Search Engines 1.5 Release Candidate 2
Juni 14, 2009
Install Organize Search Engines 1.5rc2
Changes since RC 1:
- compatible with Firefox 3.5
- cool new tango icons
- “Encoding” is added to engine properties
- simplified/slightly faster XPCOM registration for the component (using XPCOMUtils.jsm)
- fix: “add more engines” now also works when the engine manage is opened from the add-ons window
- fix: dropping text over a search engines searches with that engine instead of the currently selected one
- fix: “Open All in Tabs” feature works for folders with an engine without an icon
- fix: when adding an engine, a folder can be selected again
- auto context support is updated to latest version
- removed TabmixPlus hacks – TMP now supports OSE natively
- fixed minor SearchWP incompatibility
THANK YOU! I was lost for a couple of days without this…
Yes, thanks so much. This is one of my most favorite addons ever.
Thanks very much, I really like this addon.
One suggestion: when searching multiple sites using the “Open in all Tabs” it closes all the other tabs. An option to open the searches in new tabs would be very nice !
Format92: to get that behavior you can set browser.tabs.loadFolderAndReplace to false in about:config. But now that I think about it, I remembered that this pref has last been used in Firefox 2. So I guess I should change the default behavior in the next release (replacing the tabs as a default never really made sense to me, but I decided to go with what Firefox does).
I love this add-on, but I’m having issues with this version and the v0.4.4 of Context Search. When both are enabled, Context Search does not work, but when Organize Search Engines is disabled Context Search works.
Before the FF3.5 update, they were working great together.
I have no problem using the same version of Context Search. What other add-ons do you have?
Malte: Thanks for tip, It worked nicely. I was using the default search method for a while and it is interesting when you want to start fresh with several search engines. Maybe a toggle button could be interesting !
Many thanks for the great addon.
Thanks!, Firefox 3.5 without this extensions is a mess, I have about 50 search engines and was a headache… I hope de final version will be available soon
Firstable, I’d like to thank you for all the hard and for updating. I also wanted to suggest that, if there is anyway you can implement a way to backup the engines? I have lots of search engine that i keep inside each folder but every time I have reboot the system I have to add folders and the search engines back again. I always make folders for my media search, games, tech, etc. So, it would be great to have this feature similar to backing up bookmarks. Thanks!
Thanks!!!! You are immense, great the a ability to change icons. One of my favorite extension at all. Feel free to follow me on Twitter (harrison3001).
Hallo Malte Kraus :)
Ich habe die Version 1/5 rc 2 ff 3.5.1. Kein Problem.

Thanks alot for this addon – i love it :)
I’m glad i found a beta version for FF 3.5, hope it works well, if not i’ll post back here…
-X-
Thank you again, and again for this super extension.
Where is the proper location to discuss issues and request.
When Organize Search Engines is open, one can not access the browser. It would be nice to be able to cut and paste information from the browser window.
(Update by malte: joined the two comments)
May we have a blog RSS feed for comments?
benphane: Besides this blog, there’s email (firefox-at-maltekraus-dot-de) and the Google Code project (http://code.google.com/p/organize-search-engines/issues).
You can also open the OSE dialog from Tools -> Add-ons -> Organize Search Engines -> Preferences. This way, the dialog will only block the add-ons window and you can access the browser.
I don’t think I will change the current behavior about blocking the browser, though. While I personally don’t like it too much either, that’s just how these dialogs work… However, I’ve been experimenting with a completely new interface that can be used to select and organize engines at the same time. It might take quite a while for me to implement that, though.
About the feed: there is already one. When you select the feed icon in the url bar, it’s the one with the title of the blog post in it.
After updating to Firefox 3.5.1 I had to update Organise Search Engines to 1.5 to get compatibility, which was fine. I normally have my search engines in folders (because I have so many) but after the update the folders are no longer showing in the drop down list. Instead of a nice neat listing, I have a big long list.
If I go to Manage Search Engines it does show the folders properly. So it is just the drop down list that is faulting.
I looked on your Google Code page and there is no listing of this fault on the Issues page. Is it a know issue that you are aware of? If so, is there a fix coming as I love this extension?
Thanks in advance.
THANK YOU SOOOO VERY MUCH FOR THIS UPDATE, M8!
YOU ROCK!!!
Hejo Malte
